2xIPA
Brewery: Southern Tier Brewing Company (Lakewood, New York)
Style: American Double IPA
ABV: 8.2%
Tonight I was in the mood for hops. Lots and lots of hops. The local convenience store had a surprisingly good selection of craft brews so it was difficult to narrow down my decision, but ultimately I decided on Southern Tier’s 2xIPA. Four kinds of hops, three types of malts… yeah, I was sold.
The 2xIPA is somewhere between a regular IPA and an imperial IPA, firing off at a hearty 8.2% ABV. This is a very, very hoppy beer that accentuates both citrus and floral notes. When poured into a glass, the beer has a type of yellow amber color with a light and easy head. The hops are ever-present even in the aroma, and its taste is both robust and bitter. This is a glorious IPA.
Even with its high ABV, the 2xIPA goes down very smooth and is easily drinkable. This is a strong beverage that can creep up on you, and it’s a hard one to put down. As far as double IPAs go, this is one of the better ones I have had. I am definitely going to have to keep an eye out for more of Southern Tier’s releases.
