Happy Friday everyone!
I am closing last week’s poll a little early since I will be out of town for the next few days. I have a bright and early flight this morning to Portland, Oregon, a town I have been wanting to visit for years. I am especially looking forward to visiting some of their craft breweries (a few of which are within walking distance of my hotel), and doing some hiking in the beautiful mountains just outside of the city. It’s going to be great to get away, and hey, if you have any suggestions as to what I should see/do while I am there, don’t hesitate to leave a comment. I will try to keep tabs on any updates while I’m away.
Anyway, onto the winner of last week’s Best Teen Comedy poll:
THE RESULTS:
– Superbad: 10 votes
– Fast Times at Ridgemont High: 6 votes
– American Pie: 2 votes
– Road Trip: 1 vote
– Other: 10 Things I Hate About You: 1 vote
In the battle of old vs. new, the new prevailed. Superbad is a freakin’ riot, but I am a little surprised to see it mop up against some classics. No love for Animal House or Porky’s?
This week’s poll is inspired by a very entertaining roundtable discussion from three great movie bloggers: Ian, Fogs and PG Cooper. Vote for your favorite David Fincher film, then stop by and see what those guys had to say!
Have a great weekend everyone! See you next week.
Does Breakfast Club not count?
Breakfast Club should count, but maybe it is more in the drama section; although it is quite funny at times π
I thought about including The Breakfast Club (and other John Hughes movies), but they didn’t really fit in with the other films listed. I probably should have labeled this as “teen sex comedies” instead.
Why do I keep missing the chance to vote!! Curse you tunnel vision.
(Strangely as i sit here commenting I am listening to Simple Minds on spotify… ‘Dont You’ is playing now and I read Pete’s comment…. Spooky!!)
Hahaha good stuff. Hope you remembered to vote in this week’s poll! π
I’ve not seen any of them! Apparently this is a film genre I need brushing up on.
It looks like Superbad would be a good starting point. π
It was a tough pick for me between Animal House and Fast Times but I remember watching Fast Times as a pre-teen and just thinking high school life seemed so awesome. SuperBad definitely invokes the spirit of those older films better than most teen stuff that’s out there.
I’m shocked Animal House didn’t get a single vote, but I’m with you on Superbad being one of the best comedies in recent years. Love that movie.
I miss fat Jonah Hill
Haha yeah, he never really looked right as the skinny type, did he?
Sounds like a relaxing weekend! I love hiking π
It wasn’t too relaxing, but it was A LOT of fun! Definitely got a lot of great hiking in.
The Sunshine Blog Award is going around and I’ve nominated you!! Here’s the post and I love your blog! http://journeysinclassicfilm.com/2012/04/15/blogathons-awards-and-other-musings
Oh, awesome! Thanks for sending this my way! I’ll see about getting a post up for it sometime this week.
Seven easily. So atmospheric and unsettling. I used to really like Fight Club the first couple times I saw it. But then I grew up ahah π
But then you grew up? What the hell’s that supposed to mean?
DAMNNNN…. Cap be hatin’.
Ouch. Yeah, that’s rough, man. Can’t argue about picking Seven though. I am surprised that one hasn’t received more votes so far. Still a few days left!
Hope you enjoy your trip to Portland !
Thanks man, I had a blast! Would love to go back again.
I don’t think I’ve seen very many of this genre so I skipped the poll π I’d have voted for ’10 Things I Hate About You’ hands down.
Well it looks like someone agreed with you about 10 Things π
Happy you’re enjoying that series Eric, it’s been a lot of fun to do. Ian had a great idea to start that thing.
Meanwhile, it’s opened my eyes to some repulsive prejudices out there against one of the greatest films ev-er, the movie that got my Vote – FIGHT CLUB. Which is leading, by the way… haters!!
π Good to see Fast Times represented well last week at least, too.
It’s weird to see the general perception of Fight Club change over the years, or at least it has seemed that way to me. I don’t get the hate for it, and apparently this week’s voters don’t either π
Hooray for Superbad.
btw, I had to vote for Fight Club. While I own several of Fincher’s work, Fight Club is one that I will watch over and over again.
Man, I have seen Fight Club too many times over the years. A fantastic adaptation of a great book.
