The final tally is in on this guy’s grade as Oscar host:
THE RESULTS:
– B: 13 votes
– A: 5 votes
– C: 5 votes
– F: 2 votes
– D: 1 vote
So, the general consensus seems to be that MacFarlane was pretty good, but not great. I can get behind that. Even though the Oscars felt more like a roast with him at the helm, I think he did a better job than the hosts of the last couple years. I’m glad he won’t be doing it again next year — it’s good to have variety — but I don’t have any major complaints with his performance.
This Week’s Poll: Last week, I wrote about my experience of seeing 2001: A Space Odyssey on the big screen in 70mm. This made me think about Stanley Kubrick and his impressive directorial career. My question for you this week is: what is your favorite Stanley Kubrick film? I’m allowing for two votes since it’s damn near impossible to pick just one. Really curious to see how this one plays out.
Have a great week everyone!
Close the poll quick, Close the poll quick! LOL (aka “FIRST!”)
Glad you allowed two choices. Also glad you said “Favorite”. I had to pick The Shining, natch, and then I went with Full Metal Jacket! Hoo Rah!
Haha, don’t know if I have had a “FIRST!” comment before. I dig it. 🙂
Looks like your top pick is still doing quite well for itself.
I liked him, he held back I could tell but I thought he was tactful.
Yeah, it did seem like he held back a bit, but I was surprised with a few of his jokes.
Man, that’s a really hard decision to pick Kubrick’s two best films. I ended up going with 2001 and Barry Lyndon, but I love pretty much all of his movies.
Yeah, it really is a tough decision. I still need to see Barry Lyndon, but I have it coming up soon for my project.
I’ve only seen Strangelove and Shining… but I’d probably pick Strangelove even if I’d seen them all.
Those are two great films right there. I would be curious to hear your thoughts on 2001: A Space Odyssey if you ever decide to give it a watch.
I’ll get to it eventually, no question about it.
Based on how puerile, juvenile, unrefined and rote his contributions were, I give it “seventh grade”.
Hah, fair enough. Some of his humor is definitely low-brow. I could have done without that whole “we saw your boobs” number, for example.
Glad I’m not the only who disliked his “show” 🙂 For new poll – 2001 and The Shining, though Eyes Wide Shut was really close to being my choice 🙂
Great picks! Didn’t know you were such a big 2001 fan. That’s awesome.
I think I gave him a C. He’s not bad actually, I enjoyed his musical segments and he has a surprisingly good voice! That said, I’m still not a fan of his.
Yeah, I’m not much of a fan of him either, but I’ll agree that he did a pretty solid job overall.
