Best of the Month: The Last of Us is the best piece of media I consumed last month, hands down. It is a monumental video game, the likes of which we haven’t seen before. As for movies, Before Midnight has quickly become my favorite of the year so far. Three Colors: Blue and Rififi were both excellent additions to my project.
Worst of the Month: Mama and V/H/S are both terrible horror movies, with the former being the slightly worse of the two. I’ll likely be sharing mini-reviews of them sometime soon.
Quite a list of film, Eric. Good job!
Thanks!
Looks like you saw some great stuff. I’ve been meaning to see Girls for quite some time, but keep putting it off.
Girls is pretty hit-and-miss. Not sure if I will continue watching it past season two…
Oh yeah, Mama was such a crap. So far the worst movie I’ve seen this year.
Ugh, yeah it’s the worst for me as well. What a waste of talent.
we see eye to eye on alot and last of us might end of being my favorite piece of entertainment this year…only thing to get a 10/10 so far. playing through hotline miami now, some good bloody fun
Isn’t Hotline Miami nuts? It’s too addictive… there were a few nights last week where I told myself I would just play for a few minutes then ended up getting sucked in for a couple hours. Now I’m going back to pick up the puzzle pieces and find more secrets. Such a great game.
Aw, a little harsh on Mama, I thought it was alright up until the terrible final 20 mins. It could have been much better.
I wasn’t a fan of the movie at all, but yeah, the terrible ending was the icing on the cake. Not sure what they were thinking.
Hi, Eric:
Excellent choice with ‘Rififi’! One of the best quiet heist films ever made.
‘The Bling Ring’ intrigues if only to discover who is dumber, yet more content. The spoiled rotten spawn of L.A. or those who post photos of their wealth on social media, yet have no security system in place?
Has the makings of some scathing social and cultural satire!
Oh, yeah. And Emma Watson.
Kudos also, for ‘Red’, ‘White’ and ‘Blue’!
Hi Jack,
Rififi was a VERY nice surprise. I had a feeling I would enjoy it, but I wasn’t expecting it to blow me away. The actual heist is epic. Will be posting my thoughts on that soon.
The Bling Ring is worth a look for the exact points you mention. A sad reminder of what our society has come to these days.
Massive list here, Eric! Really looking forward to seeing Before Midnight. Feel like I need to see the previous two again just for kicks before seeing the latest.
I think that’s a great idea. I watched Before Sunrise/Sunset back-to-back last summer, and that made for a great double feature. Adding Before Midnight would be even better.
